Rustic Apple Crisp
Ingredients
- 6 large apples, chopped*
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 3 tbsp. whole spelt flour (or flour of choice)
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp. allspice
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 tbsp. butter, diced
- 2 1/4 cups GRAINSTORM 1869 Oatmeal
- 3/4 cup chopped pecans
- 6 tbsp. pure maple syrup
- 3 tbsp. butter, melted
- 1/2 tbsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. salt
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350°F; grease 9 x 13" baking dish.
- In a large bowl, toss together the apples, maple syrup, flour, vanilla, and spices.
- Transfer the apples to your baking dish, and press down gently. Dot the top with 1 tbsp. butter, then cover with foil and put into oven for 20 minutes.
- While the apples begin baking, make the topping. In a large bowl, mix all the topping ingredients together until nice and crumbly.
- Remove the apples from the oven and give them a stir. Spread the topping on top of the apples, then cover the pan again and put it back into the oven for another 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 10 - 15 minutes until the apples are soft and the crumbs are golden.
- Remove from oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!!
* We like to leave the skins on the apples. It makes prep so much simpler and gives the apple crisp a delightful, rustic texture!
